The Vero Writer

A bespoke computer system running Vero’s proprietary writing software. Students have the assignments, sources, and tools their teacher has chosen, in one focused place to develop their writing without distraction.

The Vero Teacher Uplink

A small device that plugs into the teacher’s computer, connecting it to the classroom’s Vero Writers to deliver assignments and receive student work.

Frequently asked questions

Can teachers use their own assignments or adapt materials from the banks?

Yes. Teachers can create their own assignments or choose and adapt assignments from the Assignment Bank and writing processes from the Process Bank. They can change the instructions, sources, rubrics, and writing tools to suit their students, and combine assignments into a process that fits their lessons.

How does it connect without internet access?

The Vero Teacher Uplink creates a local wireless connection between the teacher's computer and the Vero Writers using BLE. Assignments and submitted writing travel through that connection.

The Teacher Portal is a website used on the teacher’s computer, with specific login credentials. Students cannot access it or any portion of the internet on their Veros.

Can students open a browser, use social media, access AI, or switch to games?

No. The Vero cannot access the internet including social media sites, open any apps apart from the Vero Writer, or perform any action beyond what the teacher has assigned.

What happens if the connection drops?

Students can keep writing. Their work saves on the device and can be submitted when the connection returns.

What if a device runs out of battery?

Saved writing remains on the Vero. Once it is charged and turned on, the student can reopen their work.

Does every student have to work at the same pace?

No. Teachers can give students different assignments and support, including automatic calculation of additional time for students with accommodations, while keeping the class working toward the same lesson. In a writing process, students can return to unfinished work as the class moves forward.

Where is student writing stored?

On the student’s Vero while they work, and on the teacher’s computer when they submit. That direct transfer does not require uploading their writing to the cloud.
